Irene Young

Irene Young began English & Scottish Country Dancing under the tutelage of Carl Wittman in 1976. After about a year, she began team-teaching with Mr. Wittman at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, OR. She assumed full responsibility for those classes when Mr. Wittman moved east to North Carolina. She continued to teach at RCC until 1982 when she moved north to Portland where she resumed teaching with Dick Lewis. She also presented workshops around the state of Oregon.

Now back in the Rogue Valley, she is currently teaching classes in Grants Pass. Irene began dancing as a young child and continued to study all types of dancing throughout her adult life. She feels privileged to have been able to train under such country dance masters as Carl Wittman, Mary Judson, and Bruce Hamilton. In addition, her professional career as an elementary school teacher and teacher trainer helped provide her with the expertise necessary to help people become confident, joyous dancers.

Irene loves the sense of community and friendship that country dancing provides. She especially cherishes those “magical moments” created when dancing with good friends to beautiful music.
